Bensenville, Ill. (July 26, 2024)–The Bensenville Park District announced it will alter the schedule for its Deer Grove Leisure Center (DGLC), Wood Street Fitness and Water Park & Splash Pad because of limited access to parking lots the morning of Friday, Aug. 2, due to a full-scale exercise by law enforcement scheduled to run from 9:15-11:15 a.m. at Fenton High School.
Wood Street is scheduled to be closed from Rt. 83 to Henderson, with limited access to the DGLC from the east, from approximately 7:30-11:30 a.m. There will be a checkpoint in place at Wood and Henderson to assist patrons who need to access the DGLC.
Activities at the DGLC, 1000 W. Wood Street, have been modified due to the event. As a result, drop-offs for all summer camps except Tot, Sunshine, Farm and NEDSRA camps will take place at the Redmond Park Football/Soccer Fields, 700 John Street in Bensenville. Pickup will be at the DGLC at the normally-scheduled time.
Before- and after-care programs will run as scheduled, with limited access to the DGLC from the Franzen St. entrance to the northeast lot for drop-offs at the Oak Room. Tot and Sunshine Camp drop-offs will also take place at the Oak Room Entrance at the northeast side of the DGLC. Patrons should enter the lot at the Franzen St. entrance. NEDSRA camp drop-off will be at the turnaround at the main (west) entrance of the DGLC.
Friday Hand & Foot and Samba games for the Young at Heart will be postponed from their regularly-scheduled time (10 a.m.-1 p.m.) to noon-3 p.m. in the Oak Room.
Wood St. Fitness, located inside the DGLC, will be closed the morning of Aug. 2, opening at noon. The closure affects use of the weight room/fitness center, track and group fitness classes.
The Bensenville Water Park & Splash Pad and its parking lot, 1100 W. Wood Street, will be closed until approximately 11:30 a.m. as well, as the lot will be used as a staging area for emergency responders participating in the exercise. The swimming lesson schedule has been adjusted for the week to run Monday-Thursday.
The Bensenville Park District thanks its patrons for their understanding and patience.
