Bensenville Railroad Museum to expand hours in 2024

Train Tuesday Story Time added to Saturday and Sunday open house schedule

Bensenville, Ill. (December 27, 2023) — The Bensenville Park District announced an expansion of its Bensenville Railroad Museum open houses, inviting the public to step back in time and experience the allure of a bygone era from noon to 4 p.m. each Saturday and Sunday through the spring.

“The open houses offer a captivating opportunity for attendees of all ages to immerse themselves in the world of locomotives,” says Fischer Farm Manager Christine Shiel, who oversees the museum. “Amidst the backdrop of Veterans Park, just north of the railroad tracks, visitors can explore a restored 1920s era locomotive, a true testament to the rich history our community’s railroads.”

Each open house allows children to participate in new crafts and activities, promising an enjoyable and educational experience for everyone.
Additionally, the park district is offering Train Tuesday Story Time from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Tuesday. Young children and home-school children are welcome to drop by for story time activities in this railroad-themed event. Groups of six or more should contact Shiel in advance at CShiel@bvilleparks.org.

Admission to the Bensenville Train Museum is completely free, aligning with the park district’s commitment to making history and cultural exploration accessible to all. Families, individuals and groups may join in taking in the experiences.

The Bensenville Railroad Museum is located at Veterans Park, at the crossroads of Church Road and Main Street in Bensenville.
