COVID-19 Safety Precautions

Dear Bensenville Park District Families,

The Bensenville Park District’s top priority is ensuring the safety of all our participants. As an agency we’ve been closely monitoring information being presented by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Illinois Department of Health (IDPH) regarding COVID-19.

Under recommendations from these organizations we have had to make some challenging decisions. The reason these decisions were particularly hard for us, is because of the nature of what we do, we bring people together with events, programming and recreational environments – areas where the CDC has outlined COVID-19 can spread easily.

Below are the safety precautions we are taking:

Special Events – As an agency we have set a threshold that events anticipated to bring over 50 participants, will be canceled. This includes the Clover Hunt on March 14, and the Easter Egg Hunt & Eggstravaganza on April 4. Please stay tuned to our Facebook for info regarding gifts the Easter Bunny is scheduled to drop off for your little ones, at the DGLC.

Young at Heart – With COVID-19 being more serious for our elderly, all Young at Heart programming and trips have been canceled for two weeks starting 3/13/20. This includes Lunch Bunch, cards, and games in the Oak Room.

Basketball – As basketball games bring large gatherings of people, all youth games and practices have been canceled for the season. Coaches will be notified and more information will be provided through them. The women’s basketball league games will be postponed and will resume 4/1/20.

Wood St. Fitness – While our fitness center is regularly cleaned, fitness centers have the potential to be environments where COVID-19 can be easily spread. With this, Wood St. Fitness will be closed for two weeks starting 3/14/20, after that time we will reevaluate. All current members will have two weeks, or the length of the closure, added to their membership automatically. Fitness classes will run as scheduled with the exception of cycling which has been canceled.

DGLC – With open gym bringing over our threshold of 50 participants, Open Gym has been canceled for two weeks starting 3/14/20. The DGLC will have slightly modified hours. The center will be open Mon-Fri from 5:30am-8:30pm, and Sat-Sun 7am-5pm.

We will be evaluating all activities and programming every two weeks, and will keep you informed as this situation unfolds. All programming not mentioned here will run as normal. Our maintenance department has ramped up both the extensiveness and frequency of cleaning of our facilities, to help combat this virus. We ask if you, or your child is sick please refrain from participating in programming until better; for a full list of best practices please visit our website.

If you have any questions at all, or you or a member of your family has COVID-19, please contact Phyllis Schmidt at 630-238-4922.
