Bensenville, Ill. (July 19, 2024)—Wood Street Fitness and the Bensenville Park District are offering a fitness trip to the Indiana Dunes State Park for the Three Dune Challenge on Saturday, Aug. 18. The bus leaves the Deer Grove Leisure Center, 1000 W. Wood St., at 8 a.m. and is expected to return at 1 p.m. that day.
“The three-dune challenge is a great way for friends and families to come together and experience the outdoors while also getting some exercise,” says Fitness Program Supervisor Silvia Acevedo. “Participants can expect to burn up to 400 calories on this hike, making it a great way to get fit while enjoying the beautiful natural scenery.”
The challenge includes a mile-and-a-half hike that scales the Indiana Dunes State Park’s three tallest dunes, which total more than 550 vertical feet. Those wishing to complete a more moderate workout can choose a three-quarter mile one-dune hike instead.
Registration for the fitness trip is open now and will remain open until Aug. 15. Interested participants can register at the Deer Grove Leisure Center. The registration fee is $17 per person ($15 for those living within the park district boundaries) and includes transportation to and from the park and a free commemorative postcard or bumper sticker from the park gift shop to mark the completion of the hike.
The Bensenville Park District recommends wearing sturdy hiking shoes and clothing appropriate for the weather. Participants should be prepared for a challenging hike and should bring plenty of water and sunscreen. There will be time for lunch at the park after the hike, so participants should plan to bring their own lunches.
