Bensenville, Ill.— The Bensenville Park District is launching its brand-new Fischer Farm Food Fridays series Friday afternoons this fall, starting on September 8, at Fischer Farm located at 16W680 Old Grand Avenue, Bensenville. Each event offers a unique culinary experience for all age groups, making it a must-attend affair for families and food enthusiasts alike.
“We’re thrilled to present the Fischer Farm Food Fridays Series, offering a unique blend of history and gastronomy that brings the past to life in a delicious way. Whether you’re young or young at heart, there’s something for everyone to savor and enjoy,” says Fischer Farm Manager Christine Shiel.
We All Scream for Ice Cream (Friday, Sept. 8 – Ages 6+)
Kickstart the series with a sweet note! Join us on September 8 for an unforgettable afternoon of homemade ice cream. Guests will have the opportunity to handcraft their ice cream and indulge in an ice cream party like no other. Fees are $15, $10 for those living in-district, and cover all materials and supplies.
Popcorn Time (Friday, Sept. 29 – Ages 6+)
On September 29, delve into the heart of Illinois’ agricultural heritage with a focus on corn. Participants will shell and grind corn to feed farm animals, dissect a cob and learn how to make delicious popcorn to enjoy by a cozy fire. Fees are $15, $10 in-district.
Tortilla Workshop (Friday, Oct. 27 – Ages 15+)
October 27 is all about authenticity as we use Fischer Farm-grown blue corn to create mouthwatering blue corn tortillas. In this fun workshop, attendees will not only craft tortillas but also receive a recipe and ingredients to replicate the magic at home. Fees are $8 ($5 in-district).
Pie Making Workshop (Friday, Nov. 17 – Ages 6+)
Just in time for Thanksgiving, Fischer Farm invites those ages 6 and older to an afternoon of delicious fun while discovering cooking techniques from the 1920s. Assemble a take-home-and-bake homemade pie, and savor the taste of tradition. The fee is $20 ($15 in-district) and covers all materials and supplies.
Bread and Butter (Friday, Dec. 15 – Ages 6+)
Close out the series on December 15 by stepping back in time and learning how to make bread and butter the old-fashioned way. Create take-home dough and savor the delight of spreading freshly churned butter on crackers and warm, homemade bread. The fee is $20 with a discounted rate of $15 for those in-district.
