Sign up now for June 3 park district 3 Dune Challenge trip

Bensenville, Ill.—Register by May 31 for the Bensenville Park District’s fitness trip to the Indiana Dunes State Park for the 3 Dune Challenge on June 3. The bus leaves the Deer Grove Leisure Center, 1000 W. Wood St., at 8 a.m. and is expected to return at 1 p.m. that day.

“This challenging hike at the dunes is perfect for families with children of different ages and abilities looking for an adventurous outing,” says Fitness Program Supervisor Silvia Acevedo. “It’s a great opportunity to come together and experience the outdoors while also getting some exercise.”

The 3 Dune Challenge is a 1.5-mile hike that includes scaling the three tallest dunes, totaling more than 550 vertical feet, at the Indiana Dunes State Park.

“Participants can expect to burn up to 400 calories on this hike, making it a great way to get fit and enjoy the beautiful natural scenery,” Acevedo adds. “Those wanting a more moderate workout can choose a three-quarter mile one-dune hike.”

Registration for the fitness trip is open now and will remain open until May 31. Interested participants can register at the Deer Grove Leisure Center. The registration fee is $16 per person ($14 for those living within the park district boundaries) and includes transportation to and from the park and a free commemorative postcard and bumper sticker to mark the completion of the hike.

The Bensenville Park District recommends wearing sturdy hiking shoes and clothing appropriate for the weather. Participants should be prepared for a challenging hike and should bring plenty of water and sunscreen. There will be time for lunch at the park after the hike, so participants should plan to bring their own lunches.
