Explore anthropology and more in new park district program
Bensenville, Ill. (January 17, 2025) — Fischer Farm invites youth ages 10-18 to explore exciting new topics in history, culture, and society through Social Science Saturdays, a new monthly program offering engaging and educational experiences. Programs will be held from 1:30-2:30 p.m. on select Saturdays from February through May at Fischer Farm, 16W680 Old Grand Ave., Bensenville.
Each month, participants will dive into a unique subject, from the science of human culture to the history of immigration in Bensenville.
• Anthropology Day (Feb. 18): Discover anthropology’s connection to archaeology, biology, language and society, exploring its relevance in both real life and digital worlds.
• Anthropology and Food (March 15): Learn how food reflects culture, history and the environment.
• Urban Farms and Food Justice (April 12): Understand the impact of urban farming on food justice, food insecurity and social issues.
• Immigration Simulation (May 10): Experience the journey of early immigrants through interactive storytelling and games.
“We are excited to bring Social Science Saturdays to Fischer Farm as a way to inspire curiosity and teach young people about the connections between history, culture and their daily lives,” says Farm Manager Christine Shiel. “These programs offer a fun and interactive way to engage with important topics while exploring the history of Bensenville and beyond.”
The fee for each session is $15 per participant, with a discounted rate of $10 for those living within Bensenville Park District boundaries. Registration is required at least one week prior to each session.
