Assessment includes short- mid- and long-term recommendations
Bensenville, Ill.—The Bensenville Park District Board of Commissioners approved a comprehensive facilities assessment that will guide planning for future improvements to parks and facilities at its regular meeting Wednesday, January 18, at the Deer Grove Leisure Center. The “2023 Bensenville Park District Facilities Assessment” was conducted by JSD Professional Services of Des Plaines.
The report includes assessments of each of the 17 park sites as well as buildings associated with the Deer Grove Leisure Center, White Pines Golf Club, Water Park & Splash Pad Bathhouse and the Buildings & Grounds Maintenance Facility relative to use, wear, conditions and maintenance. The assessment of the existing site infrastructure, topography, vegetation, access, circulation, parking, drainage, current land use, play fields and exterior recreational spaces, open space, development constraints and other conditions will be utilized for planning future site development and intended uses.
The report includes several facility enhancement recommendations to be addressed throughout the Bensenville Park District as a whole. They include installation of concrete pads under all team benches, concrete pads under spectator seating areas, black-vinyl coated fencing/backstops, updating playground equipment that is beyond its useful life (10-15 years old), repair and renovation of cracking bituminous pavement and replacement of all port-a-potty enclosures.
Additionally, the report recommended developing a standard for park site furnishings to provide a unified look throughout the park district that would include benches and tables, litter receptacles, bicycle racks, drinking fountains and signage.
The complete assessment is posted on the park district website, BvilleParks.org.
