Now they’re cookin’! Park district offers two summer cooking programs

Bensenville, Ill.— The Bensenville Park District’s summer schedule is cookin’ with the introduction of  Cook with Me and Culinary Masters, two engaging cooking class programs designed to inspire and educate young chefs ages 5-10. These hands-on culinary experiences will take place at the Deer Grove Leisure Center kitchen, located at 1000 W. Wood Street.

Cook with Me offers an interactive cooking journey for children and their accompanying adult, providing an opportunity for bonding and learning together. These classes will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, featuring four unique sessions throughout the summer.

The May 23 session will focus on sweets, allowing participants to explore the world of desserts and create delicious cupcakes with frosting.

On June 27, the Mexican-themed session will take children on a culinary adventure, teaching them how to prepare popular Mexican dishes.

July 25 will be dedicated to Italian cuisine, where participants will learn to make classic Italian dishes and discover the secrets of Italian cooking.

Finally, on August 22, the vegetarian session will introduce children to the world of plant-based cooking, emphasizing healthy and flavorful vegetarian recipes.

Culinary Masters, on the other hand, is a series of classes designed to empower young chefs to become culinary experts in their own right. These classes will take place from 5 to 5:45 p.m. on Wednesdays, offering two separate sessions throughout the summer.

From June 7 to June 28, and again from July 12 to August 2, Culinary Masters will guide students through a series of easy, do-at-home recipes. Participants will gain new skills, develop kitchen confidence and develop a taste for trying new flavors and dishes.

“Our Cook with Me and Culinary Masters programs are designed to provide a fun and educational experience for young chefs,” says Breana Aponte, park district recreation supervisor. “Through these classes, children will not only learn valuable cooking skills but also develop a love for food and culinary exploration. We invite children to join us for these interactive classes and embark on a delicious journey of culinary discovery.”

To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants, the Bensenville Park District encourages parents and guardians to inform park district staff of any allergies or dietary restrictions at the time of registration. Registration for Cook with Me and Culinary Masters is open at the Deer Grove Leisure Center or by phone at 630-766-7015. Spaces are limited, and early registration is encouraged to secure a spot for your young chef.
