Park district to offer pickleball beginning March 6

Deer Grove Leisure Center to host drop-in sessions each Friday morning

Bensenville, Ill.—The Bensenville Park District invites local players to take part in the fastest-growing racket sport in America beginning March 6, at the Deer Grove Leisure Center, 1000 W. Wood Street, Bensenville.

Pickleball combines tennis, badminton and ping pong into a fun game. The game is played with a perforated, plastic ball the size of a baseball (similar to a wiffleball) and composite paddles.

“The game is easy for beginners to learn but can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players,” says Bensenville Park District Recreation Supervisor Breana Aponte.

Pickleball courts are available for rent from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday at the Deer Grove Leisure Center gymnasium. Court rental fees are $6 per hour for youth, $8 for fitness center members and $12 for non-members.

The center will also host drop-in sessions from 9 a.m. to noon every Friday through May 26 in the gymnasium. The drop-in fee is just $3. Pickleball paddles and balls are available for checkout at the front desk.
